Libby Servais, Cassie Okenka, and Lauren Ashley Zakrin all participated in MTV’s Legally Blonde: The Search For Elle Woods, which was a reality show that chose Laura Bell Bundy’s (original Glinda standby - B’way) replacement in the part of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical (on Broadway). None ended up winning, but it really is a small world, and actually Annaleigh Ashford originated the role on Margot in LB too!
The other half of the fiery, green gal is Miss Popularity; interests: toss toss-ing, coming and going by bubble, and just all around popular. Toss toss! My fave is Katie Rose Clarke, but Kendra Kassebaum and Megan Hilty are favorites too. Who’s yours?
And there are tons of ‘em. Principals, standbys, even understudies. Broadway, Chicago, London, Down Under, LA, San Fran, 1NT, 2NT, etc. From Menzel to Espinosa and all the way in between. I’d have to say mine is Teal Wicks, partly because she was my first Elphie and inspired me to be in theatre. :) Who’s yours?
Because one short day in Oz just isn’t enough, ya know? I’m guilty of seeing this magical spectacular 3 times (once on Broadway, twice on tour [1NT] in LA), but how many times have you all seen it? And I’m very curious how many times the infamous TWickies have too…
I received many wonderful entries on why you bloggers are the biggest Wicked fans, but one stood out to me: the nomination (of themself) from wickedmetalviking. This blogger said that they have been truly changed for good because of Wicked, and that they take life lessons from the musical and apply them to be a better person, all thanks to Oz. And that to me is a way bigger (and better) fan than simply someone who spends their fortunes on front-row tickets every weekend. Wicked is, although I love it as much as all you do, a musical, not our life, but if we can be a better person because of it (and if it can inspire us to do something important or different within our lives), then I think that deserves the win. Here’s wickedmetalviking’s entry:
"Where do I begin? I haven’t seen it 50 times, nor have I done much what other ‘big-time’ Wicked fans have done. I haven’t met any one of the actors (and probably never will), and all I have to show for about five years of fandom are two and a half unofficial full shows on DVD. I don’t even consider myself the greatest Wicked fan. But I know that Wicked has changed me: I try harder not to judge people and remember that nothing is what it seems. I know, that’s a lame-ass reason, but though I’ve questioned many of the others, those few are the strongest and longest lasting ones. ”
P.S. I’m also very surprised the TWickies didn’t nominate themselves; after all, they are big Teal Wicks fans, and fly from coast to coast to see Teal and Wicked, but congrats to wickedmetalviking! And ALL of you who love Wicked!!! :)
Hey all! Okay, so obviously if you reblog or like my posts, follow my blog, OR have a Tumblr Wicked-themed blog, then you must heart Wicked the Musical…right? I am a HUGE fan, and not only because it has magical music, jaw-dropping sets, Oz-mazing costumes, and talented actors, or that I want to be Elphaba one day, but Wicked changes you for good. After you walk out of the theatre (whether tour or bway) you feel like you’ve gone through this whole story and that you’re now a part of it. So, in honor of that, I’ve decided to hold a Wicked fan contest to see who the biggest Wicked fan is on Tumblr! Of course there are Wicked fans off-Tumblr too, but let’s focus on our close-knit blogging community, K? Here are the rules: respond to this post OR send fanmail or a ‘question’ to my ask box, nominating yourself OR another fellow Tumblr-ian. List why you think you’re the biggest fan; e.g. you’ve seen it over 50 times, have an Elpha-room in your house, it inspired you to be in musical theatre (me!), or just any way it changed you for good. And you can also nominate non-Tumblr fans for a different sect of the contest! So… who’s the biggest fan?
Wicked’s like any other musical show: it has principals (leads) and an amazing ensemble. Of course, most ensemble members serve as understudies to the principals (like Glinda and Elphie!), are swings (ensemble u/s), dance captains, OR just awesome ensemble dancers. Everyone wants to be the “star,” but literally every single person in this Ozian Broadway spectacle is crazily talented. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that Wicked tends to “reuse” its stars, like replacing 2NT members with their former understudies or standbys from another company, etc. So as a non-Wicked performer aiming to be a star-spangled Ozian, that’s gotta be hard to “break in,” per se. For example: Anne Brummel started out as ensemble/Elphaba u/s in the Chicago company, then transferred to the 2NT where she served as standby until taking over the green full time. Similar to Teal Wicks, Christine Dwyer, Megan Hilty, Eden Espinosa, Marcie Dodd, Vicki Noon, and others who went from standby to principle. Of course, some go from understudy to standby and even to principle. Some even go from understudying Glinda to becoming the principle Nessa! (Stefanie Brown!) Point is: you gotta work your way up. Unless you’re Katie Rose Clarke or Kendra Kassebaum, who went directly to principle Glinda… :)
If you love Wicked, Broadway, musical theatre, Oz, funny blogs, Next To Normal, and/or KYLE DEAN MASSEY, then I really suggest you follow my friend’s AWESOME blog! Mind you, she has actually met Kyle Dean Massey, Katie Rose Clarke, the Wicked 1NT cast, AND been backstage (and on the stage) at Wicked (like me)! So if you want first-hand accounts of KDM, KRC, and flying monkeys, follow KDMIA!
So I held a WICKED contest, and the winner was the lovely roavaswardrobe! Her reward is to be admin for krctosstoss for a day (today) so all the posts posted on Toss Toss! today are from her! Also, if you love theatre, Wicked, GIFs, and randomness, I genuinely suggest you follow her blog. Click here to follow this amazing blog!!! Toss toss, peeps! :)
So I went away to Palm Springs this week, and it was sunny and perfect, and actually quite fun considering I’m more of a “gloomy day” over bright desert kinda girl. So I was bored, and I found out they had 3 grand pianos in a secluded section of the lobby, so… I grabbed my handy-dandy binder full of sheet music (that I conviently brought along) and sat there for hours teaching myself to play The Wizard and I. Okay, the VOCAL LINE of TWAI. And let me say… Stephen Schwartz is a musical menace! (In a good way.) I mean there were all these darn sharps and flats and this and that. And what the heck is a “neutral??!!” And I wasn’t even playing the piano line! Then I pitied the orchestra pit at Wicked because, hello: they play THE ENTIRE SCORE with ALLLL these different instruments and sounds and presets and weird reeds and such! AND I looked down there and there wasn’t a sheet music page in sight. Geez, those talented musicians MEMORIZE Stephen Schwartz’s crazy score! So pity the pit! Pity it!
Attention all of my lovely Tumblr followers (non-followers too!): I (krctosstoss) am having a sort of WICKED CONTEST! Well, it’s a mix of that and a game, fun, trivia, insert your word here ____________. :) So here’s the deal… every day I will post a name of an past/present Wicked star (from Elphaba to the ensemble) and you will have to find a proshot of them, post it, and then send the URL in my ask box. Now this may be tricky if, for example, I say find Alexa Green’s proshots (she was Glinda u/s/ensemble). But they HAVE to be professional production shots, NOT backstage photos or such! But there are only so many proshots to go around. If you send me a proshot that someone else has already sent me, then YOU ARE OUT and cannot submit anymore for the duration of the contest. And on the last day, there will be a challenge, and the winner of it all will get to be krctosstoss’s admin for the day… you send me all the posts you want to appear on my blog, and I post them! You can even post to me to have people follow you. And I will try to get most of my followers to follow you. So let the games begin, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
So apparently roavaswardrobe thinks I have “an uncanny ability to indentify a Glinda with just a picture.” That made my day. :) She asked how I picked it up, soo…
Well I’m on Tumblr, and I do my research, as well as scrolling through FB photos and Google Images on occasion, AND I read my Grimmerie and souvenier program. Get familiar with all the proshots. Haha! I can’t really answer that…
Teal Wicks is back in west coast for one night!!! She was invited to perform at May 19, 2012 California Musical Theatre’s ‘Wicked’ gala to support the Music Circus Foundation. She will be performing 4 songs in this event.
Stephanie J. Block To Star In New Broadway Show After 'Anything Goes'!
In Stephanie’s recent interview with Playbill’s DivaTalk, she unofficially announced that after her run as the ravishing Reno Sweeney is over in Roundabout’s Anything Goes (on Broadway), she would be taking on another role in a show coming to Broadway! She can’t say what it is yet, but can’t wait for it! KRCTOSSTOSS <3 SJB!
